I’ve been coming to Maine every for 50+ consecutive summers, and am most familiar with the Brunswick/Harpswell (Harspwell Neck, Great Island, Orr’s Island and Bailey Island) area. After years of renting, my parents bought a summer home here in 1989, so I know from experience what the considerations are and some of the things you might not think of/be aware of as far as buying a home in Maine. While no single agent can be the expert in every region of the state, I have relationships with agents all over the state. So if you determine you’d like to be in southern Maine where the sandy beaches are, or on a lake surrounded by forests in the Highlands, I will refer you to an experienced, professional agent who knows the area well.
While I get up to Maine at least a couple of times a year, I currently live and sell real estate in Pennsylvania. I specialize in helping buyers relocate to the greater Philadelphia area, so I understand the specific needs of buyers who are “from away”. Clearly, Maine has its own set of idiosyncrasies including the particular concerns of owning waterfront property, thinking about wells and septic systems and winterizing in a cold climate. While buyers moving to Pennsylvania have different potential obstacles and issues, my focus as a real estate professional has always been to identify those important things buyers might not know they need to think about. I believe that answering the questions you don’t even know to ask is probably of even greater value than answering the ones you ask. So, think of me as your personal concierge, here to guide you through the entire process of buying a home in Maine–from determining where you should look, to what you need to know about the process, to deciding how you are going to use the property to the specifics of your target area and particular location.
