Many people vacation in Maine (that’s why it’s known as Vacationland!) and then start thinking about buying a home there. The hard part is how to know where you should look. While you may have loved where you visited (or even several different spots you have spent time in), Maine is a big state with lots of different areas, each with its own personality. There are eight recognized regions of Maine:
- Aroostook County
- Kennebec Valley
- Maine Highlands
- Maine Lakes And Mountains
- Acadia And Down East
- Maine Beaches
- Greater Portland And Casco Bay
- Mid-Coast – Brunswick & Harpswell (including Great Orr’s and Bailey Islands)
Depending on the lifestyle you are looking for and what kinds of amenities and activities are most important/appealing to you, certain regions may be more suitable than others. Learn a little about each of them here by clicking the names of the regions displayed below. I strongly encourage you to click the links that provide details about the specific cities and towns in each region as well as the list of annual events. Doing so will help you develop a much deeper understanding of what these distinct areas are like. Once you’ve done some preliminary research, please be in touch so we can refine your criteria and focus on the “best fit” locations.
